ALNWICK crashed to their third successive home defeat as they succumbed to the strength of fourth placed Horden.

The blue 'n' golds were unable to avenge a bruising 74-10 defeat earlier in the season as they slipped to a 25-11 loss at Greensfield.

Ian Gray mustered a try for the hosts while Rob Jamieson and Adam Alexander kicked a penalty apiece.

But touchdowns for ex-Alnwick player Paul Bruce and one each for Cox and Turner helped the visitors come away with maximum points.

Superb kicking from Turner (two goals and two penalties) helped consolidate Horden's triumph.

Alnwick's latest defeat came under the watchful eye of top international referee Dave Pearson.

Pearson from Ashington has a CV boasting seven international appearances - the latest was Wales' Six Nations triumph over Italy in Cardiff - and arrived at Greensfield on the back of taking charge of Sale Sharks' 22-16 Guinness Premiership win over Gloucester.

Alnwick press-officer Terry Owen-Smith said: "He was excellent and the opposition couldn't believe that we had got an international referee to come and take charge of the match."

For full reports of all three games see this Thursday's Northumberland Gazette.
