NORTHUMBERLAND have booked a dream trip to Twickenham after a 29-5 triumph against North Midlands in the County Championship Shield.
The decisive encounter sealed Northumberland's place in the shield final and they will face Cornwall at the presti
gious Middlesex venue on Saturday, June 1 at 10am.
The game will feature as part of the England v Barbarians match.
Northumberland booked their place at the 82,000 capacity stadium, and also promotion back to the top flight of county rugby next season, with a dominating performance against the North Midlands, having already beaten Durham and Cumbria.
But it was the Black Country side who took the lead in the very first minute; a try putting them 5-0 ahead.
That was as good as it got for North Midlands though and Northumberland opened their account on 15 minutes when Tynedale back-rower Tim Swinson gathered a lose pass and forced his way past the last two defenders.
Tynedale fly-half Beasley added the conversion.
From the kick-off, Northumberland went on the attack again allowing Tynedale centre Ben Duncan to crash over on 20 minutes.
Beasley added the conversion and kicked North further into the lead with a penalty on the half-hour mark.
Before half-time, Swinson grabbed his second try of the afternoon after a North Midlands clearance kick was charged down and the ball ran loose.
North Midlands started the second half by building some good attacks but Northumberland's defence proved as effective as their attack.
The only points of the half came after 10 minutes when Tynedale full-back Jack Smailes glided past several defenders and finished his half-pitch length run with a try. Beasley added the conversion.
North Midlands were unable to peg rampant Northumberland back and only managed to visit the Northumberland 22 on two occasions as they chased the game.
