A TOP triathlon event has been given the red-light because of severe flooding at Druridge Bay Country Park.
The 2008 One Life Standard Distance Triathlon – which was last year crowned as the North East Race of the year – was set to be held this Sunday (September 14).

But event organisers have been forced to pull the plug on the event -
a Mazda National Ranking Event and European Championship qualifier - after the park was badly hit by the heavy rain over the weekend.

The challenge was set to be a 1500m swim in the park's Ladyburn Lake, a 40km cycle on a new lap circuit on closed roads and a 10km run, which would have entailed three laps on tracks around the lake. The course would have been electronically timed.
