OLYMPIC swimmer Chris Cook made a splash when he paid a visit to the Alnwick Dolphins.
The breaststroke master gave the youngsters a tutorial and spent time at the Willowburn pool on Saturday.

And Chris, of Wallsend, was pleased by what he saw.

The 29-year-old, who picked up two gold medals at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, said: "The kids here are so enthusiastic.

"I am very impressed with the skill level."

Chris, who swam the 4x100m medley relay and the 200m breaststroke at this year's Beijing Olympics, added: "Since I have come back from Beijing I have been targeting the next generation of swimmers.

"There is no reason why somebody from this club can't be a future Olympian. It can be done.

"It is about inspiration and trying to influence that 'can do' attitude."

Chris' pool appearance was a huge bonus to the Dolphins.

Club secretary Julia Stenton said: "It is a real boost, especially for the older members who have been able to meet and speak to somebody who has achieved what he has."

She added: "Chris was so positive and really friendly."
