THE Bob White Memorial boat match was cut short on Sunday when the sea suddenly 'came away' and became too rough to fish safely.
Seventy five competitors took part, with 44 anglers weighing in.
Robert Nesbitt of Ashington, fishing from the charter boat Warlord, won the event with a cod of 9-9-4.

Walter Turnbull was second overall with a pollock of 7-10-4, third Kevin 'F
luff' Anderson with a pollock of 7-3-0, fourth Joe Riley with a pollock of 6-6-12, fifth Paul Conroy with a pollock of 6-2-0 (all fished on Charlotte), with John Barrett, pollock, aboard Sarah, and Sean Davison, with a cod of 6-1-12, aboard the Lily Dee, joint sixth.

Junior winner was Philip Ward of Amble with a pollock of 5-5-4.

The event raised £520 for good causes and organiser Norma Urwin of the Amble Angling Centre said: "It was a great day, until the sea became too rough around 12.30pm, but we had another good turnout after the Open Match the other week.

"In total, after a shore competition we had in March and a sponsored walk, we have raised about £1,800 for charity.

"I would like to thank all at the Amble Sea Angling Club for making this such a success, especially Ken Middlemas for arranging the Penn sea league points."

A cheque for £1,500 will be presented to the St Oswald's Hospice as well as a cheque for £300 for the Amble Lifeboat crew, of whom Bob was a great admirer, at the Harbour Inn, Amble, at 7.30pm, on Thursday, July 24.
