TEENAGE tumbler Sam Dronsfield scooped two silver medals in a national team tumbling competition.
Sam, from Glanton, gained a place on the podium in both the individual and team categories in the event, at the Biddick School Sports College Community Gymnastics Club, Washington.

It was the first national team tumbling competition held around the country and pitted Sam against opponents from Warrington, Durham, Hartlepool, Aberystwyth, and Leeds.

The 13-year-old gained his solo silver by tumbling to a total of 79.2 points – finishing just 1.75 points behind the eventual winner, who is of international pedigree. Sam's scores were 25.9, 28.0 and 25.3.

In addition to his individual achievement, his team of three
junior boys also achieved a silver medal for their efforts.

Sam, a pupil at Alnwick's Duchess' Community High School, said: "I am really pleased with my and the team's achievement. All three tumbles went well on the day and that is what it is all about, each of my tumbles were good ones, there are no second chances. Each one counts".

A week before, Sam had come fifth in the British NDP Finals held at Fenton Manor Sports Complex, Stoke-on-Trent. The youngster was competing in the Elite Grade 2 Men's Tumbling 13-14 years.
