POCKET-ROCKET Sarah Wilkes has raced to a tenth-place finish in a national fell running championship.
The youngster, 12, locked horns with cross-country stars throughout the country at Howgill Fell, Cumbria, on Sunday in The English Schools Fell Running Championships.
In what was her first fell race, Sarah, a Year 7 Duke's Middle School pupil, challenged runners of her year group across the two-mile course, which rose some 750 feet.
And in her first national schools event, the Warkworth running prodigy finished tenth in the Year 7 category, finishing in a respectable 26minutes 23 seconds.
Sarah is back in action this weekend representing the Morpeth Harriers U13 girls team at the North of England Young Athletes Relays.
