Coastal run VIDEO exclusive The event scooped the accolade for its organisation, value for money and, above all, scenery.
And it looks like the race has left its mark yet again!
Here is what some of this year's runners thought about the 29th coastal challenge.
Tim Hartley, Barrow Runners, race winner: "It is my first time up here and I have really enjoyed it today. It is a good run and one that everybody will enjoy from all levels of running."
Judith Nutt, Elswick Harriers, first woman home: "I don't look at the scenery when I'm running. But there are no mile markers so it is a pure race."
Michael Morris, Morpeth Harriers: "It is a beautiful run. There can't be a better run in the UK. I will be surprised if it doesn't win for 2008 because it is so beautiful."
Dave Manners, member of Claremont Road Runners, Newcastle: "I have done it loads of times. It is a good day out and we stop in Alnmouth after the race. I think it definitely deserved to win the award last year, it is full of beautiful scenery."
Dawn Marland, Newcastle: "This is the second time I've run the race and I have to say it is just beautiful. It is no surprise that it won the Runner's World award last year because it really is just fantastic."
Joe Prudham, Jarrow & Hebburn Athletic Club: "This is my favourite race because of the scenery. It is also a tough race. The tide could be in or out so you just don't know what to expect."
