ALNWICK Bowling Club has been relegated from Division One of the Northumberland Bowling Association Clegg Cup after a poor season.
In their final game against possible champions Backworth, they were beaten 14-0 and ended up second bottom in the league.
They have survived in the Nines league after a mid-season scare to finish fifth and in their last game had a 6-2 win against Summerhill.
The first year of the Friday triples has again been a great success despite being hit by the weather, this week's session had to be abandoned, in the end the winner of section A was Joyce Harper with John Heathorn runner-up and in section B the winner was Yvonne Turner and the runner-up Lilian Stokoe.
For only the second time since the competition began, the winner of the Monday night Jumbles was Bob Hillsden, who wins the Ken Liddle trophy.
Going into the last night on Monday, he was nine shots behind second-place Eileen Burn but playing against her, his triple came out winners and he finished eight shots ahead.
John Hume failed to make the final section of the County Oubridge Cup, the champion of champion trophy for private member clubs in the county, after being beaten on the St George green at Morpeth by Jack Calder of Amble 21-19.
Roger Turnbull won through to the final of the Leath trophy on Monday night and now has another semi-final and one more final to play within the next few days.
The weather continues to play havoc with fixtures. The North Northumberland League finals day on the Alnwick green at the weekend was washed out and the Morpeth floods also hit the Alnwick players.
They were due to play Gilt Edge Bowling Club, a touring team, on Tuesday but the visitors cancelled after they were told their hotel at Morpeth had been flooded.
The Alnwick short-mat indoor season will start their winter programme at the usual venue in the Duchess's High School on Monday, September 22, at 6.30pm.
