A CHALLENGING 20-mile race through the hills of north Northumberland takes place this Saturday.
Runners and walkers alike will tackle the tough Chevy Chase event – the 53rd of its kind – which is organised by Wooler Running Club.
The epic course will take competitors deep into the heart of the 'land of the far horizon' and they will summit both Cheviot, at 2,676ft, and Hedgehope at 2,348ft.
The tough route mainly follows tracks, footpaths, sheep paths and crosses rough fell.
Last year's event saw 119 walkers and 169 runners start the race.
It was won by Iain Twaddle of North Shields Poly, in 2:45:06. Alnwick Harrier, David Kirkland took second place in 3:01:50.
Rachel Vincent, of Tynedale, never faltered and finished in a time of 3:19:22, ninth overall and first woman home.
Mary Logan, part of the organising committee, said: "We have had 300 entries and the event has been fully booked since the end of April. It is becoming more and more popular and we are hoping for a great event."
