HOUSEHOLD finances across the region are being stretched due to the increasing price of oil used in the home.
The Citizens Advice Bureau is promoting a campaign for residents to set up and manage oil clubs within the community.
An oil club is a group of residents who want to save money by purchasing oil collectively in bulk. The clubs can be as large or small as they want, but the more members there are, the greater the savings. Existing oil clubs across the country save an average of 10 per cent. This saving is made mainly through reduced delivery costs by people living close to each other, having oil delivered at the same time.
Alnwick and District CAB is looking for community-spirited people who can spare a few hours each month to act as oil club co-ordinators in their community. Don’t forget, by volunteering as a co-ordinator, you will also benefit from the savings.
Co-ordinators will be in charge of setting up the oil club and recruiting members. Members of the club will be required to register to be part of the scheme and the co-ordinator will gather all of the registration information together and store it.
The co-ordinator will take orders from the club members and will also be in charge of telephoning oil suppliers to negotiate the best prices.
Alnwick CAB will assist any co-ordinators setting up an oil club by providing advice and assisting with the promotion of the club. The Bureau is organising an event to provide further information to potential co-ordinators.
If you feel that this is a challenge that you would like to embrace for the benefit of your community and you can spare a few hours each month, please register your interest by contacting the Citizens Advice Bureau on 01665 604136 or by emailing your name, address and telephone number to email@example.com
We would also be interested in hearing from anyone who already set up an oil club, as the Bureau can help promote the club to increase its membership.
