ROADWORKS: ‘Keep clear’ of finishing job

Alnwick town centre was subject to a lot of traffic diversions due to an unforeseen gas leak.

However, after weeks of traffic turmoil, we can now get back to normality. Or at least that’s what we think.

Walking through Bondgate Tower, it soon becomes clear that the workmen were putting finishing touches to their hard work.

Only 50 yards into the town and I’m stumbling across this absolute disgrace of fine art.

After talking to one of the workmen, they informed me that they are under strict instructions to patch up only the areas that have been affected by the recent gasworks. The result is that we now have a jigsaw that has got out of control.

Please, take a good look at the small bit of paint on the letters E and P.

Only a few years ago, the entire road had been resurfaced for Her Majesty The Queen to visit this wonderful town in Northumberland.

We have had the Olympic Flame and the Commonwealth Baton being carried through Bondgate Within.

The same street was also voted as one of the most loved shopping streets in the country, according to Googlemaps.

In the near future, Alnwick will again be in the news when the Tour of Britain comes through our town and puts us in the spotlight once again.

Surely, Alnwick wants to make a better impression than this.
