Park in fear

RECENTLY a work colleague had occasion to park her car in Fenkle Street, Alnwick.

Her car had been for an MoT and the mechanic returned it to her just after 4.30pm and my colleague bought a parking ticket for 30 minutes.

But the time on the ticket machine and the ticket was 4.24pm (16.24 for Europhiles).

So the ticket expired at 4.55 not 5.05pm.

My colleague spent 25 minutes worrying that she would get a parking ticket before finishing work at 5pm.

It’s bad enough that we in north Northumberland have to pay to park but is it really necessary to give us the added burden of fear?
