What is the purpose of Lesbury Parish Council?
A parish council meeting was held in Lesbury on November 26, where a planning application made by Northumberland Estates to build eight houses in the village conservation area was discussed. All the residents present spoke out against the proprosal, and 50 letters have been sent to the council planning department by the people of Lesbury opposing the development.
No letter and no resident has spoken in favour of the proposal. The parish council members did not speak at the meeting to express their personal views, but cast their votes when invited to do so by the chairman.
Six parish councillors voted in favour of the plans and one voted against.
Democracy? Representing the people? What a shame the people of Lesbury don’t get the chance to dispose of the parish council in the way they have cast aside our views and pillaged the heart of our village.
