FINES: Supermarket risks custom

What on earth is Morrisons supermarket in Alnwick thinking in introducing a camera-controlled automatic fining parking system?

Has it not noticed that Sainsbury’s, Lidl and now Aldi offer free parking?

Could it not have simply joined the disc scheme like its Morpeth branch, which is, of course, also free?

I can only assume it hopes to profit from penalising those who have not noticed the new scheme and are used to nipping in for a few bits without the hassle of getting a ticket.

Morrisons may make some money from these fines, but I believe the amount of custom it loses will far outweigh any benefit. I know I will no longer be shopping there and I suspect I won’t be alone.
