COUNCIL: Shocked by behaviour

If anyone has concerns about the level of debt and borrowing by Northumberland County Council, do as I did and watch the full council meeting from the public gallery.

It was a real eye-opener to learn how £1.4billion of debt was forecast.

After the Conservative leader challenged the inclusion in the budget of an £8.5million loan to Alnwick Garden Trust without a risk assessment or previous debate, I found Labour members’ behaviour disrespectful.

Regretfully, the budget was passed with the help of Liberals and the Independents.

The last outgoing Labour Government left a note saying “there is no money left”. Is this our fate?
