May I apologies for the cancellation of the Valentine’s Charity Ball that was due to take place at the Hindmarsh Hall in Alnmouth, on Febuary 14, in aid of local homeless projects run by the Salvation Army.

The reason the event was cancelled was because insufficient tickets were sold or reserved and as the event was set up to raise money for charity we could not justify continuing in the face of making a loss.

We have put cancellation notices on our posters so that everyone gets to know as quickly as possible and full refunds can be obtained at Alnmouth Post Office.

Why did we not sell enough tickets? Perhaps in retrospect on Valentine’s night some people had things already organised or the tickets didn’t go on sale early enough or we were being too ambitious trying to provide a three-course meal that meant we could not rely on last-minute purchases to make us profitable or perhaps Alnmouth was not quite ready for something as different as this. Who knows?

First, we apologise to those who bought or reserved tickets. Hopefully by giving you as much notice as possible this will give you time to book an alternative for your night out.

Secondly, we would like to thank all those who helped us organise it, including Mac and Jane with the bar and music contacts, the Red Lion, Lorna Ternent, John Hall and Richard Lillico with the venue lights and sound system, Eddie Billington with the tuition and Charlotte from Atmosphere with the table decorations, and both Thomas Cook and Alnmouth Post Office for their support and help with the sale of tickets.

In addition there are many local companies who have donated raffle prizes as well as those who donated their talent for the talent auction on the night who we would like to thank but of course none of this will go to waste.

On a more positive note, we have already raised over four fifths of our original target.

Our next event, in great Alnmouth tradition, will be a coffee morning some time in March at which we will have the raffle draw and incorporate the Talent Auction into that event. For further details see www.justgiving.com/Robin-Winder or contact 07713 842398 or email robin75up@hotmail.com
