African adventure

WE are writing with regards to our planned tour to South Africa with the senior rugby and hockey team at the Duchess’s High School.

We are taking part in a number of matches and activities while we are in South Africa, representing the school and the wider Alnwick community as we travel around the country.

As part of our trip we are spending three days and nights working at a community centre in a rural area outside of Cape Town.

The Goedgedacht trust (www.goedgedacht.org.za) works with the children who live in the area and would have very few opportunities if it were not for the work of the trust.

They provide after school support clubs, hot meals and clothing for the poorest young people in the area and work hard to provide what they term ‘paths out of poverty’ for people in the shanty towns and surrounding areas.

We have supported the charity in the past on previous tours to the area and we are really looking forward to helping on the trust’s farm and with running some after-school activities and sessions for the young children.

We are planning to hold a raffle to raise funds for the charity and the tour and would be very grateful for any prizes you may be able to donate to help us with this plan.

We are also hoping to find some sponsorship for the tour and if you would be able to assist with either raffle prizes or sponsorship we would be most appreciative.

You can get in touch with either of us via the school or contact the teacher in charge of the tour, Miss Naomi Richardson, via email on nrichardson@dchs-alnwick.org or phone on 01665 602166.
