A Queen for all the Irish?

NEXT year marks the retirement of the current president of Ireland.

A new president could be elected, or the Queen could be invited to become Head of State in a united Ireland under the principle of home rule.

Judging by the Queen’s recent successful visit, I believe this would be welcome to the population at large, especially as there is now less emphasis on the religious aspect.

The Royal Ulster Constabulary could combine with the Garda to combat terrorism.

As a back-up, Ireland already has a strong military establishment and there would be no reason for the presence of British troops.
