A 12-year-old budding photographer captured the moment a car went up in flames on the A1 this afternoon.

Her dad Paul, 52, said that the driver pulled over and two men leapt out of the vehicle before the fire spread to the fuel tank, which then went up in flames.

Lauren caught the dramatic scene on her camera as they passed. They said that the tailback caused was about two miles.

A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said at 3.49pm they received reports of a car on fire on the A1 at Adderstone, Northumberland. Emergency services were quickly on the scene and the fire was extinguished.

The spokeswoman added that police remained on the scene to assist with traffic control and both the driver and passenger were safe and well.
