Double celebration

Wooler Young Firefighters’ Association is celebrating after doubling its number of recruits and receiving a donation of £300 towards the cost of equipment.

Some 14 teenagers aged 13 to 18 meet at Wooler Fire Station every Monday night, between 6pm and 8pm, to learn firefighting skills and how to respond to other emergencies, such as car crashes.

Glendale relies on its team of retained firefighters to respond to emergencies, and the aim is to encourage youngsters to sign up when they reach 18.

Thanks to a donation of £300, raised by Linda Murray and friends, who held their own version of Ascot’s Ladies’ Day in Wooler, the association can now start getting in the extra equipment needed for the new recruits.
