Wooler Camera Club

Question: What is a photograph? Answer: A photograph is a reproducible image made by light.

This was the definition supplied by local professional photographer Paul Kenny when he judged Wooler and District Camera Club’s first two competitions of the current season.

In the Michael Grieves Award for Monochrome Textures and Patterns, members fully exploited the interplay of light and dark to produce images that were in turn intriguing, witty and occasionally disorientating.

Paul gave an appreciative and constructive critique of each of the 27 entries and awarded the top honour to Mike Young for Sand. Second was Patrick Sheard with Velodrome and third Pat Young for Jaipur Observatory.

Highly commended certificates were awarded to Peter Ayres ,Patrick Sheard and Russell Young.

In the John Cowings Trophy, Anything Goes gave members a free hand to submit their best pictures on any subject.

Out of the 39 entries, Patrick Sheard came first with Shepherd Boy, Peter Ayres was second with Solitude and Diane Baynton came third with Floors Castle Garden. Highly commended certificates were awarded to Graham Bell Diane Baynton and Patrick Sheard.
