Woman injured after car crash in Northumberland shop car park

This is the dramatic scene after a car crashed through fencing and collided with a skip, leaving an elderly woman pedestrian injured, in Alnwick this morning.

The incident happened alongside Morrisons’ car park, between the store and the bus station, and Northumbria Police and the North East Ambulance Service have been in attendance.

It is believed the woman was hit by one of the skips at the scene or debris from it, following the crash. The driver of the car, a Vauxhall Insignia, is uninjured, but is said to be shocked by the incident.

An eyewitness, who did not want to be named, said: “The driver lost control in the car park and went through the fence and hit a skip, and the woman, who was on the other side, has been injured.”

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: “Police were called to Morrisons’ car park at 10.52am following reports of a collision. Officers attended and found a car had collided with a skip and items had fallen from it. The male driver is not believed to be injured, but is shocked by the incident. A woman who was nearby at the time has been injured and she is going to be taken to the Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, in Cramlington. Emergency services are at the scene dealing with the incident. Anyone with information should call police on 101 ext 69191 quoting reference number 332 110915.”
