A NEW priest has been ordained for one of Northumberland’s most idyllic parishes.

Family, friends and clergy packed into All Saints Church in Rothbury on Sunday to see Dr Rosie Stacey become the new minister for Upper Coquetdale

The service was led by Bishop Martin, Anglican Bishop of the diocese of Newcastle, in what is believed to have been the first ordination ever to have taken place in the ancient building.

It was followed by a welcoming party in the Jubilee Hall.

Speaking after the ordination service, Bishop Martin said: “It was a wonderful evening for me, for Rosie and for the people of Upper Coquetdale, where Rosie will continue to serve, but now as a priest in the Church of England.”

Rosie, who has lived in the area for many years, will continue her work as a senior tutor at Newcastle University.

She said: “It has been a very special day for me and I have appreciated the support and affirmation of those who have been alongside me on this journey.

“I am greatly looking forward to working with the people of this parish and community in which I will be serving.”
