Weather fails to dampen spirits at Ingram

The wet and windy weather failed to put a dampener on Saturday’s Ingram Show as despite visitor numbers being low, entries were high and the quality higher.

This was the first time for several years that the event has had to cope with such inclement weather.

Inevitably, the number of visitors was down, but entries in the various classes was as high as ever and the quality possibly even higher.

Sheep numbers were good, lots of children entered the pony sports and other sports and the industrial tent was packed and bursting with colour.

The weather cleared for just long enough for Steve, from Let’s Circus, to put on a great performance, thoroughly enjoyed by those who saw it.

Children and adults had the opportunity throughout the day to try their hand at circus skills, including stilt-walking, monocycling, plate-spinning and juggling.

In the marquee, Ken and Peter, the medieval woodturners, were kept busy at their trade and answering questions from visitors with background music from Heads on the Block.

Meanwhile, the tearoom had a constant stream of customers enjoying hot tea and the superb food available. Andy and Margaret Watchorn provided an accompaniment of traditional music, which is always enjoyed.

Unfortunately, the dog show had to be cancelled as conditions were so difficult for spectators and dogs alike. The organisers are extremely grateful for the support of the people who travelled to Ingram to take part and hope they will join them again next year.

Despite the rain, there was fun to be had and lots of smiling faces.
