A range of events took place in north Northumberland across the Easter weekend, including the annual pilgrimage to Holy Island, pictured above.

And following weeks of dire weather, it was relatively clear over the weekend, helping to boost tourist numbers in the area for the start of the Easter holidays.

The National Trust said it had good weekends at both Cragside and Lindisfarne Castle, where Easter Monday was its best day of the year so far.

Meanwhile, reports from Seahouses suggest that all of the accommodation was full, with someone looking to stay on for longer unable to find anywhere.

In Alnwick, chamber of trade chairman Carlo Biagioni said that Friday and Saturday in particular were excellent for traders.
