Warkworth Parish Council chairman Jeff Watson has admitted that there is no easy answer to solving parking and speeding problems in the village.

His verdict followed a point raised by resident Rod Galilee during public question time at this month’s parish council meeting.

Coun Watson said: “We are just at an absolute loss about these issues. We have had monitoring of the traffic speeds through Warkworth.

“We can’t put something on the main road through the village, like speed bumps, because it is the A1068, and we are trying to do something at the bottom of Beal Bank – we are waiting for the police to come back. In terms of parking, probably the only solution is Castle Field.”

Coun Stewart Elliott agreed: “Castle Field is the one place where an extra car park could be provided, but that would raise all sorts of issues, of course.”

The meeting heard that not many people use the Beach Road car park, although councillors conceded it is in a poor state of repair. Quotes are being sought to improve the entrance to this car park.

○ The parish council will ask for a traffic regulation order to make an official disabled parking spot in Dial Place and one in Brewery Lane.
