It has been fitted with the latest Technogym fitness equipment, a shower and changing facilities, and a purpose-built room, with ring, for Druridge Bay Boxing Club.

The facility is being managed by Active Northumberland, whose instructors will be on hand to provide advice and guidance on health and fitness training programmes.

Northumberland county councillor and Druridge Bay ward member Coun Scott Dickinson cut the ribbon to officially open the centre on Friday, ahead of a special public preview event on Saturday. The centre launched on Monday.

Coun Dickinson said: “This has always been a well-loved community centre, but it has now been extended, refurbished and modernised to create a multi-purpose sport and social facility.

“It has been refreshed, both inside and out, and will offer a more comprehensive range of activities and classes. I am sure it will be a space that residents of all ages can use and enjoy.”

There is a range of membership options available and Active Northumberland will be looking to develop a programme of fitness classes and community and sports clubs.
