MOTORISTS are advised to be aware of disruption affecting Alnwick during the Royal visit on Wednesday, with road closures and diversions in place.
A spokesman for Northumberland County Council’s highways department said: “Traffic flows will be maintained through Alnwick by use of the outer town road. A diversion for local traffic will be set up using Willowburn Avenue, Wagonway Road, Prudhoe Street, Clayport Street, Lagny Street and Canongate.
“Road closures will be in place during the visit. Roads will be kept open as long as possible, but some disruption is expected in the town centre.
“Bondgate Within, Narrowgate and Denwick Lane will be closed for the whole of the visit with residents’ access only. Access to all points will be maintained when possible, police officers and traffic management officers will be on hand to help in any way they can.
“Visitors will be able to park off The Peth in the castle grounds, where there will be ample free parking.
“Guests and visitors are asked to use the Denwick junction off the A1 where they will be guided to the car parks by police officers and traffic management officers.”
