Her friend Kath Elliott decided to organise the event at the town’s Little Shore beach to raise funds for Bright Red, the charity that supports the ward.

The Gazette’s Jane Coltman was on hand to capture all the fun - full coverage in Thursday’s Northumberland Gazette.

There was also a charity dip at Alnmouth, an event resurrected after several years.

And more than 200 swimmers chilled out in a New Year dip at Whitley Bay, among a series of swims throughout the country.
