WATCH: Friendly seal plays with snorkeller off Northumberland coast

A seal has been captured on camera playing with a snorkeller in the sea off the Farne Islands in Northumberland.

The wild creature is seen in the video frolicking with the woman’s glove, before nudging it back to her.

The incredible footage was captured on Monday by Neil Sprigg, a crewman with the Seahouses-based Billy Shiels Farne Island Boats for the last three years.

He was out with a dive party, thought to be from the Reading area, when the heartwarming events unfolded.

Two or three seals began swimming close to the woman while she was out in the water, before one of the creatures decided to show its playful side - to the delight of the snorkeller.

Neil said: “She was overjoyed and said it was the best snorkel she had ever had.”

He added: “I have seen videos of divers stroking and playing with the seals but it was the first time that I have seen it for myself and it was great to actually see it.”

Earlier this year, amazing video footage capturing a surfing seal off the coast of Amble went viral.
