WATCH: Aurora-chaser catches lights display in Northumberland

An aurora-chaser has captured some stunning images of last night’s Northern Lights display on the Northumberland coast.

Press Association photographer Owen Humphreys, who was positioned by Dunstanburgh Castle, said the thrilling show was quite visible to the naked eye and lasted for several hours, as pillars of light danced across the moonless night.

Mr Humphreys, 42, from Whitley Bay, travelled an hour north with 16-year-old Matthew O’Connor, a relation who is studying for a GCSE in photography.

Did you manage to catch the light display early this morning? Send us your pictures to northumberland.gazette@jpress.co.uk or upload them directly via our website www.northumberlandgazette.co.uk.

The activity is expected to decline slowly over the next few days and the weather is not looking good for aurora spotters.
