WATCH: A battle of sheep in the Upper Coquet Valley

Hundreds of people headed for the Upper Coquet Valley yesterday to enjoy the competitions, crafts, displays and music at the 142nd Harbottle Show.

The weather just about held for the annual showdown of sheep and shortbread, of wrestling and writing, of terriers and teacakes.

Show chairman Mac Young declared the event a success.

“Competition entries were up on previous years and the atmosphere was great, particularly with the music tent, which was new this year,” said Mac. “The show relies on a lot of goodwill from a hardcore of people who organise and set it up. It is a real family show and it is great to bring more people up the valley.”

The show kicked off with the sheep classes, in which Daniel Wood of Shilmoor picked up five trophies, including the JM Coatsworth Cup for overall champion.

In a close-fought tussle in the children’s class, Gregor Young just pipped sisters Rachel and Rebecca Mackay to win the trophy. Watch this video, which includes the judging of the children’s class.
