POLICE have urged those with heating oil tanks to take crime prevention measures following another oil theft in the area.
A property in Osborne Terrace, North Sunderland, is the most recent targeted by thieves, with £400 of heating oil stolen.
Inspector Sharon Wilmore-Greaves said: “This is something which happens during the day and at night time and there are a number of crime prevention measures that can be made to prevent oil being stolen, like putting locks on the tank and installing an alarm.
“People should also install lighting around the area and anyone purporting to be delivering heating oil should be challenged and they should be able to present valid identification and receipts.”
People are also recommended to keep a note of how many litres they are using so thefts are discovered immediately.
