The September meeting of Warkworth WI was touched with sadness as the life of Mary Dixon, recently deceased, was remembered.
Mary was a proud, long-standing member of our institute who made attendance at meetings a priority and who had contributed greatly over the many years she was a member. We will all miss her.
Atholl Swanston was the speaker and he showed delightful slides of wildflowers, butterflies and birds all to be found in Northumberland.
The diversity of the flora growing in our locality was a surprise to many. Jan Archibald gave the vote of thanks. Sarah Chesney won the birthday plant and Valerie West won the competition for a landscape picture.
Members are looking forward to the next meeting on October 1 which will be a special presentation, Renaissance Costumes, to which other institutes have been invited. There will be a pooled supper and the competition will be for an item of costume jewellery.
