At our September meeting our president Serena Coulter welcomed members and visitors. Dianna Webber read a poem by Pam McMeekin in memory of her. Thanks were given to members who helped at the Warkworth Show and especially to June Carruthers for the beautifully decorated cake she made to decorate our stand. This cake was shared by members at our meeting. Congratulations go to Pat Dodd for winning the W.I. cup with her chocolate beetroot cake. She brought one with chocolate topping for our refreshments.
This month’s competition winner with a pre- 1955 postcard was Helen Franklin.
The bowls group will start again September 15th. Our book reading group continues to meet monthly. We are looking to possibly combining craft groups with Alnmouth WI and there is a craft taster day organised by county at Shilbottle October 5th. The bees are quiet at the moment.
Our web site needs updating and June Carruthers is going to meet with Janice Wilson to see what is involved.
Members were asked to help at the coffee morning at the Memorial Hall on October 22nd.
We were entertained by George Nairn who talked about the history of postcards and how they have developed over the years. A fact that amused us was the significance of a stamp being placed upside down or messages being sent in code so that they could not be read by other people.
Next month will be a pooled supper and the competition will be a knitted toy. Our speaker will be John Hoborough on the history of Northumberland. New members and visitors are always welcome.
