ACT NOW: At our October meeting 43 members and two visitors were encouraged by our speaker Dr John Hobrough, chairman of Act Now, to be aware of our environment.
He explained how the balance in an eco- system is important.
He set us a challenge to do a survey of a small area of local habitat over the next year. He had prepared survey sheets for our members to use.
June Carruthers thanked John for his interesting presentation and our president awarded John with a Neighbourhood Award at ‘thriving’ level. This came as a result in Act Now’s involvement in the Britain in Bloom entry.
Our bowls teams continue to meet on Thursday mornings. The book group continue to meet monthly at member’s homes and the craft group were told about a Fascinator workshop on November 17.
Our website is no longer functioning but our secretary, Dianna Webber, will put the relevant information on the village website.
Members were reminded of the Shoe Box Appeal and asked to help at the Memorial Hall coffee morning on October 22.
We were asked to sign for Northumberland News the order form closes November 22.
Subscriptions for 2012 will be £31.50 and our treasurer asked for us to pay our subscriptions early in the New Year.
We will have Christmas cards in aid of the Lifeboats available at our November meeting. Pam Jobson asked us to collect the Morrisons School Vouchers for Warkworth first school. Jill Piddock appealed for people to help teach knitting and crochet at Ashington schools.
The competition for a knitted toy was won by Helen Franklin.
Next month Margaret Hammond will show us some simple cake decorating.The competition is an iced cup cake.
