The February meeting of Warkworth WI was attended by 40 people, an encouraging turn-out for a winter month.
The focus of the meeting was to be on crafts but this turned into a celebration of the talents of some members.
Various members had brought along some very beautiful examples of their crafts and hobbies, which were displayed around the room.
The president began by showing how to make simple knitted squares and scarves for charity, to which another member added her knitted hats.
Other members then took turns to show their work, which included needlework and collage embroidery, Aran knitting, spinning and needle felting, quilting, beadwork, appliqué cushions, novelty cakes and garden plants.
There were some very interesting and amusing stories along the way, making a most enjoyable evening in which we discovered just how much talent abounded in our institute.
The birthday plant was won by Judy Townshend and the competition for a knitted toy was strongly contested with a wide variety of impressive toys presented. It was won by Pat Dodd, second, Pat Bagshaw and third, Helen Wilson.
The next meeting is a talk by Susan Howard on Vintage Handbags. Members are invited to bring along examples of vintage handbags for the competition.
