ENERGY SAVING: Our president Rachel welcomed 32 members and one visitor to our February meeting of Warkworth WI, which opened with singing Jerusalem accompanied by Dianna Webber.

Birthday flowers were given to three members.

The craft group will next meet in March and will be learning how to spin. The bowls group continue to meet on Thursday mornings.

The resolution our WI supported was to keep local libraries open.

The Flower Show WI competition will be chocolate and beetroot cake.

Members were asked to sign a list for a planned trip to Yorkshire Lavender in July.

We will need a new president this year as Janice approaches her final year at college and Rachel finds the pressure of work and family don’t give her enough time to continue as president. Members were asked to consider coming onto the committee.

Our speaker was Robin who gave us advice on energy saving all around the home and answered many questions.

We were informed that the low energy bulbs contain a small amount of mercury which requires correct disposal.

As a result of this we are asked to bring light bulbs that no longer work to our meetings so that they can be taken for disposal.

The collection of old spectacles for recycling also continues. June Carruthers thanked Robin for an informative talk.

Pat Bagshaw won the competition with her energy saving tip about closing curtains.

The RNLI will speak to us in March and the competition is a sea sickness remedy.
