A fund-raising walk in memory of a little girl who lost her battle with cancer is taking place in Alnwick.

The town’s castle and Hulne Park will stage the North East of England leg of Emily’s Big Walk on September 6, in aid of the Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group and the North of England Children’s Cancer Research Fund.

The Duchess of Northumberland has given her support while author Bill Bryson and television presenter John Grundy will take part in the Alnwick walk, which will start at 11.30am in the castle and follow a route through the park, covering just over six miles.

Entry is £10 adults and £5 children (5-16years). It is free for those aged up to four years old. The number of walkers is limited to 300. To register, visit the site www.emilysbigwalk.org.uk.

The Alnwick event is part of a national series of walks in memory of Emily Bailes, from the Midlands, who passed away in 2008.
