VILLAGERS have welcomed the news that a north Northumberland bus company will continue to run their service.

A petition was started in Shilbottle after it was announced that Arriva would be running the 472 service again, collecting around 1,000 names.

But last week, the Gazette reported that Arriva would not be running the service from April 1.

The contract has now been given to Seahouses-based Travelsure, which has been running the service for the last 12 months.

Karen Patterson, joint-owner of Travelsure, said that they were pleased to be running it again.

“We were just surprised that Arriva did pull out,” she said. “They do a very good job in this area.

“We are very grateful to the people of Alnwick and Shilbottle for backing us.

“I hope we can continue to provide a good service.”

Parish councillor Elisabeth Haddow said: “I think that Travelsure have done an excellent job.

“Villagers have found them to be extremely helpful.”

She praised all those involved in the petition, particularly Jean Colbear, who has ‘worked tirelessly’ on the campaign.
