Drivers are continuing to ignore the safe crossing times for the Holy Island causeway, as shown here in this video by Gazette photographer Jane Coltman.

Jane was at the causeway this morning shooting video footage to be speeded up to show the tide coming in - as can be seen in the first clip.

Then, amazingly, as she was shooting the second clip, at 9.15am a white van drove through the incoming tide which can clearly be seen covering the causeway for quite a distance. The safe time to cross finished at 7.15am.

Jane said: “I heard a vehicle approach behind me and assumed he would stop, but he slowed down and as my camera was in the middle of the causeway, crawled by and drove ahead.

“The point of me doing the video was to highlight the need to pay attention to the safe crossing times, especially during the busy summer holiday period.

“When the van proceeded across the causeway I was gobsmacked. Thankfully he he made it safely to the other side.”
