VIDEO: Flooding in Rothbury

Flood barriers have been put up and the Environment Agency has issued a flood alert as persistent heavy rain caused the River Coquet, in Rothbury, to burst its banks.

The Cow Haugh car park in the village was under water as was the children’s play area of Riverside.

Flood Alerts for the upper and lower River Coquet were issued just after 9am today.

At 1pm the level of the river was measured to be 2.25m and the Environment Agency has warned that it could rise further although it does not expect it to get to flood warning level.
