Act one of a change of scene at Alnwick Playhouse has been completed.
A new community café was officially opened on Friday and bar facelift revealed at ceremony performed by the Mayor of Alnwick Bill Grisdale.
It is the first phase of a refurbishment of the whole theatre as and when funding becomes available.
The work has been carried out by local firms and volunteers, including Geoff Keenan, who has retired from Outlook Home Enhancement Centre in the town.
Roy Todd, chairman of Alnwick District Playhouse Trust, thanked staff, financial contributors and volunteers and urged people to keep returning to make the Playhouse ‘the coffee bar in Alnwick to patronise’ and to spread the word.
