Police are appealing for witnesses after a fatal collision in Northumberland this morning.

Emergency services crews were called to Park Road, Woodhorn at 7.40am today after a two-car crash when a Ford Fiesta travelling towards Lynemouth collided with a Skoda Citigo car travelling in the opposite direction.

The driver of the Fiesta, a 53-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene despite attempts to resuscitate him by paramedics and the Great North Air Ambulance team. A 60 year-old woman, driver from the Skoda Citigo, was taken Newcastle RVI her condition is described as stable.

The road was initially closed with diversions put in place to allow for casualties to be dealt with and an investigation of the scene to be carried out. The road was reopened at 12.15pm.

Police are appealing for witnesses anyone with information is asked to contact motor patrols on 101 ext 69191, quoting reference 167 20/01/15.
