(UPDATE 3.10pm): Alnwick supermarket car crash – elderly woman suffers multiple injuries

An elderly woman pedestrian has suffered multiple injuries after a car crashed through fencing and collided with a skip in Alnwick this morning.

The casualty, whose name and age have not yet been released to the Gazette, is in a stable condition, having injured both her shoulders and her right hip. She has been admitted to the Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, in Cramlington. The woman is not local to Alnwick and is on holiday in the area.

The incident happened alongside Morrisons’ car park, between the store and the bus station, and it is believed that she was hit by one of the skips at the scene or debris from it, following the crash.

The driver of the car, a Vauxhall Insignia, is uninjured, but is said to be shocked by today’s events. The vehicle has been removed from the scene.

Police are appealing for information and any witnesses should call them on 101 ext 69191 quoting reference number 332 110915.
