Twins celebrate their 40th birthday

FORTY years of town twinning between Alnwick and Lagny-sur-Marne was celebrated last weekend.

A civic delegation from Lagny, led by the mayor Patrice Pagny visited Alnwick together with representatives from the Lagny exchange.

The occasion was also marked by a visit from four representatives from Time Kommune in Norway, another of Alnwick’s twin towns.

The weekend programme included visits to Alnwick Garden and Castle, St Michael’s First School, Barter Books, Bailiffgate Museum and St Michael’s Church.

To mark the occasion a commemorative tree (a Swedish Birch) was planted in the Column Field by the mayors of Alnwick and Lagny.
