Turbine bid scaled down

A FORMAL bid to build wind turbines has been submitted to Northumberland County Council.

Green energy company Infinis wants to erect four, 126-metre-tall turbines close to Widdrington and Widdrington Station, on the restored former Sisters opencast coal mine.

The plan has been scaled down from an original proposal for five, 140-metre-high turbines following public consultation and feedback from residents.

The company has said that if the bid is successful, a community fund would be set up.
