Troops honoured

BRAVE troops who have recently returned from Afghanistan will be presented with medals in Alnwick on Sunday, after marching through the town.

Soldiers from the Alnwick and Ashington platoons of the 5th Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers (5RRF) will be honoured on the day.

They will muster at Bondgate Without at 10.45am before marching through Alnwick at 11am.

A drumhead service in Alnwick Castle, attended by various VIPs, will start at 11.25am and the medals will be presented by Lord James Percy, the battalion’s Honorary Colonel, alongside Brigadier Marr, who is director of recruitment for the British Army.

This will be followed by a march-off parade at 12.15pm.
