Alnwick Youth Hostel has been honoured in the LateRooms.com Simply the Guest Awards by achieving the prestigious top-rated status.

Simply the Guest Awards are the only ones in the UK to be based solely on genuine guest reviews.

Achieving a top-rated status means that Alnwick Youth Hostel received an average review score of more than 80 per cent across 30 or more guest reviews left in the past 12 months on LateRooms.com.

The hostel, opened in June 2011 by the Queen, was awarded Visit England four-star status in 2013.

The building, on Green Batt, has accommodated nearly 25,000 overnight guests since it opened, becoming a firm favourite among the ever-growing number of families and groups who stay there.

Richard Waters, chairman of the hostel, said: “The transformation of this previously empty and derelict building in 2010 into a modern, comfortable and affordable place to stay in Alnwick has been a major success story for the town, attracting even more visitors to the area with its low-cost accommodation, and this accolade awarded by LateRooms.com is yet more evidence that a first-rate facility has been created which will continue to compete with the best in the country.”
